Emotional / Intimacy Anorexia Coaching
(Confidential • Faith-Based • Virtual)
Emotional anorexia is a pattern of emotional avoidance—staying “shut down” on the inside even when you care deeply—where a man may look functional, busy, or “fine,” but protects himself from vulnerability by disconnecting from feelings, needs, and honest engagement; it often shows up as withdrawal, silence, defensiveness, constant distraction (work/phone), difficulty expressing affection, and a low tolerance for emotional tension, which slowly starves marriage and friendships of warmth, empathy, and safety so life becomes logistics instead of intimacy; it’s a “hidden monster” because it can look like personality, strength, or even spiritual maturity, when it’s usually fear-based (fear of exposure, rejection, criticism, control, or inadequacy) and may be tied to trauma, family patterns, shame, addiction history, betrayal, or secrecy—yet recovery changes everything as you stop living guarded and start living present.
FAQ
-
What is intimacy or emotional anorexia?
Emotional anorexia is a pattern of avoiding emotional closeness—often by withdrawing, shutting down, staying busy, or refusing vulnerability. It can leave a spouse feeling lonely even inside a marriage. -
Is this the same as intimacy anorexia?
They’re closely related. Intimacy anorexia often includes emotional, spiritual, and sometimes sexual withholding. Emotional anorexia focuses more specifically on the emotional disconnection and avoidance patterns that block closeness. -
Do you work with married couples or just individuals?
Most coaching starts with the individual, because change begins with personal responsibility. When appropriate, we can discuss a plan that supports the marriage as well (including joint sessions if desired). -
Is coaching the same as counseling or therapy?
No. Coaching is not therapy and does not diagnose or treat mental health disorders. Coaching is forward-focused, practical, and accountability-driven—helping you build new skills and consistent habits for healthy connection and recovery.
